Dr. Angelo CapozziCongratulations to Angelo Capozzi of the Rotary Club of Tiburon-Belvedere for being selected as Rotary District 5150's Rotarian of the Month for May 2023! Dr. Angelo Capozzi joined the Rotary Club of San Francisco in 1971. In 1992, he and Past District Governor Peter Lagarias also from the Rotary Club of San Francisco founded Rotaplast International to treat children with a cleft lip and palate anomaly, who otherwise would not have had access to corrective surgery. Since then, Rotaplast has treated thousands of children around the world with this anomaly.

After retiring from medical practice in San Francisco, Angelo, in 2014, joined the Rotary Club of Tiburon-Belvedere, which is closer to his home in Tiburon. He is currently the Club’s membership chair and is also serving on District 5150’s Strategic Planning Team. The following are some of his many accomplishments on behalf of his Club:

  • Delivered food to shut-ins for a local food pantry throughout the COVID-19 shutdown.
  • Took the lead in the REST program to provide dinner to homeless individuals.
  • Volunteered to deliver Thanksgiving meals to seniors with Vivalon (formerly Whistlestop).
  • Arranged for his Club to provide a scholarship to a young woman to attend medical school in El Salvador.
  • Participated in his Club’s local landscaping projects.
  • Work at the Visitor Center in Tiburon on Thursday afternoons in response to the Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce’s request for help from a Rotarian. In addition, when he discovered that the position came with a stipend, he has been donating the stipends to the Club.
  • Provide a popcorn machine so that the Club can respond to requests for popcorn from community groups. Angelo is a popular presence at local events, popping corn and filling bags to hand out.
  • Work on a Global Grant project to provide equipment and training for operating rooms at a hospital in Liberia.
In addition, Angelo has maintained his medical license as a plastic surgeon and continues to go on regular missions with Rotaplast International to perform corrective surgery. His recent missions were to Colombia last summer, India in March, and Mexico in December.

Angelo turned 90 years old on April 19, 2023. He is committed to Service Above Self and is a role model for other Rotarians. He lends a hand whenever asked and supports his Club and Rotary tirelessly. We at the Rotary Club of Tiburon-Belvedere are honored to have Angelo as our valued member. Dr. Angelo Capozzi is most deserving to be recognized as District 5150’s Rotarian of the Month for May 2023!
