We’re off to a great start for another Exchange year!

ImageWe have 3 Outbound Students in Italy, Spain and Sweden. Our District is hosting 5 Inbound Students from several countries (sponsoring Rotary Clubs): Brazil (Half Moon Bay), Denmark (Ignacio), Italy (Mill Valley), Spain (Pacifica) and Sweden (Menlo Park).

They arrived late August, and over Labor Day Weekend, we had a picnic at Mark & Anne Flegel’s home for all the students, their host families and the Counselors.

To help this adjust to the area - we completed Orientation training together with District 5170 - they have 6 inbound students for the year. Also included were some former exchange students.  We plan several joint activities during the year so they can all get together, share experiences and have fun.

Our first group outing was a ‘Day On The Bay,’ hosted by Captain Ric and First Mate Anne Laurence of the San Rafael Rotary.  We had a terrific view of the Golden Gate from all sides, the San Francisco water front and a close look at ATT Park.  The boat, weather and guides were all perfect.  Huge thanks to Ric and Anne!

Rotary Youth Exchange is a once in a lifetime opportunity for students to broaden their education and world understanding by letting them live with a Host Family and attend High School in a foreign country.

As a Rotary Youth Exchange Student, you will spend an academic year (long term program), or just four weeks (short term program) with a Host Family in a country other than your own. You will learn a new language; you will learn a new way of living and a great deal about yourself and the rest of the world. While you are learning, the people you meet will be learning about your country, your culture and your ideas. YOU will be helping to bring the world closer together and making friends that last a lifetime. Rotary Youth Exchange is open to all high school students who are 15- 1/2 to 18 - 1/2 as of August 1st of the year of their departure. The program is open to all children of Rotarians and Non-Rotarians.
