Introduction

ROTARY MICROCREDIT AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ROTARY CLUB OF MARIN EVENING
GLOBAL GRANT # 2119407

Help lift families out of poverty. Give hardworking, low-income people a chance to help themselves and their children.

We have an opportunity to help capable low-income people establish their own businesses.  This Global Grant project will improve the economic condition of women that live in marginalized and rural communities of the Santa Elena province of Ecuador.

Marin Evening Rotary is working in partnership with the Salinas Spondylus Rotary Club, Hogar de Cristo (non-profit), the Salinas Municipality and the Santa Elena Prefecture to sponsor this project providing business training and microcredit loans to 80 poor people.

WHAT WILL YOUR CONTRIBUTION DO?

The 80 participants selected will receive several weeks of business development training.  Then they will attend vocational training to gain skills in manufacturing a marketable product, depending on their abilities and interests.  This could be making shoes, clothing, food, beauty products, handicrafts or other items.  Training will also be provided in advertising/ marketing and using social media for their business.

This program aims to develop social, technical and financial skills, in order to generate self-employment and increased incomes for the participants.

Following training, the participants will be assisted in setting up their own businesses, and will receive microcredit loans of US$ 400 average. Loans could be renewed based on the borrower’s payment behavior, needs and level of accomplish.  The participants will also be provided business mentoring and coaching on-site when their businesses are in operation. In a similar previous pilot project, we were able to create 87 new businesses within one of the poorest communities in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?

This global grant project is open to all interested Rotary clubs, Districts and individuals who would like to participate.  DDF and cash contributions are welcome.
