Greetings, Rotarians and Friends:
Wow! June already? It’s true – time stops for no one. But, as it marches on, so does Rotary.
Reflecting on the past 11 months, I am filled with pride for the tremendous effort our more than 1,600 members contributed to impact lives in communities near and far. We've seen countless service projects, millions of dollars invested in global grants, a growing interest in vocational service and personal-professional development, reinvigorated Interact clubs, and growing Rotaract membership. New records in giving to The Rotary Foundation and enhanced public image efforts are just some highlights. The impact of these achievements will be felt well into the future.
Thank you all for accepting the “Connect” challenge. You connected more deeply with each other, forging stronger friendships and support networks. You collaborated across clubs on multi-club projects, socials, and philanthropy. Within your communities, you developed new projects that address current and relevant needs, raising Rotary’s visibility. This has paid dividends, with many clubs welcoming new members and recording a 3.9% net membership growth in our district, reversing a five-year downward trend.
I also want to thank our outgoing club presidents, assistant governors, and district leadership team members. Your support, answers to questions, fostering collaborative opportunities, and encouragement have been invaluable. Keep up the good work: to maintain our relevance and impact, we must continue to innovate, try new things, and take big leaps.
A Glimpse of the Recent Rotary International Convention
50 People from Rotary 5150 attended the most recent Rotary International Convention in Singapore. The five day event featured friendship, excitement, and cultural connections. Speakers emphasized Rotary’s continuing mission to promote peace and goodwill, and also looking at membership and growing new clubs.
Here's a glimpse of the convention through the eyes of some of our District members (or read the official event recap):
LET'S RAISE ROTARY'S VISIBILITY: Join SF Pride!
For the first time in 7 years, Rotary International will participate in the San Francisco Pride Parade and Festival, June 29 & 30. Nearly 1 million people from all over the Bay Area (and beyond) attend this annual gathering. Rotary will participate as a believer that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and valued for who they are -- and that everyone has the power to serve and impact lives. This multi-district effort is open to ALL Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and family/friends from anywhere: the more the merrier. If you're interested in volunteering at the booth or walking in the parade, please visit our event website.
Not the end, but another new beginning
As June 30th approaches, I’m excited to pass the baton to Governor Elect Steve Wright. In the spirit of continuity, we don’t focus on endings, but on eternal beginnings. Each July brings the opportunity to set new goals, chase new ideas, and achieve even more. I look forward to working alongside Steve and his team to maintain our momentum. And, I hope that model of continuity is reflected within your club as well.
Thank you for your dedication and hard work during this 2023-2024 Rotary year. Let's keep the Rotary spirit alive and thriving!
Your fan,
Laine Hendricks
