Ahoy Rotarians!

December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month. Polio eradication remains Rotary’s number one health initiative, but Rotarians also unite to stop the spread of life-threatening malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes, focus on health education, and bring people routine hearing, vision, and dental care. Rotarians also take action to set up clinics, blood donation centers, and training facilities in underserved communities struggling with outbreaks and health care access; and Rotarians build infrastructure allowing doctors, patients, and governments to work together.

2020 is almost here! So you can plan – first, calendar for the next Learning and Leadership Development sessions on February 1, 2020 International Service and February 29, 2020, combining Public Image, Membership and Foundation. These sessions are free and very popular so sign up now at rotary5150.org to get a seat!

Second, here in D5150 we invest in our youth now so they can lead our communities and the world of tomorrow! Plan now to be a Counselor at Camp RYLA on April 16-19, 2020 – that’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards – now in its 35th Year!!!  RYLA is a 3-day camp located in Scotts Valley near Santa Cruz and is open to high school sophomores and juniors in D5150 at no cost because our Rotary clubs generously fund RYLA. Go to rotary5150.org for information and whom to contact to meet the deadline of December 22nd to apply to be a counselor.  We expect 200 high school students this year! RYLA has grown and we are so proud to serve the needs of our youth.

Lastly, plan now and register at rotary5150.org for our District Conference – CruiseCon, May 5 – 9, 2020, aboard the Grand Princess, leaving from the Port of San Francisco and voyaging to the city of Vancouver with stops in the historic town of Astoria, Oregon on the Columbia River and Nanaimo, a vibrant and beautiful city on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. If you attended or heard about our last big District 5150 event at Gloria Ferrer Winery, you know how much fun combining Rotary and celebrating our 2019-2020 Rotary year on board will be!

Wow…lots of great events to look forward to in 2020! I know that December is a busy month for us all as we celebrate the holidays and New Year’s. Best wishes and Happy New Year to each one of you; let your plans include serving others.

Individually we are each a drop of water. Together we are an ocean!

Thank you for all you do!
