Congratulations to John Marshall of the Rotary Club of Ignacio for being selected as Rotary District 5150's Rotarian of the Month for August 2023! John has been a Rotarian since 1996. If you speak to almost any member of our Club about John, they will most likely say that he is the type of Rotarian that we all should aspire to be. In his almost 27 years as a Rotarian in our Club, he has been involved with every aspect.
Club Leader: John has served as Club President, has been active over the years on our Foundation Board as both a member and the Chair, and has been invaluable in our Club’s involvement in Relay for Life, the major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. For years, he offered his hotel as the meeting site for the Club and was involved in the food and beverage needs of almost every event that the Rotary Club of Ignacio has hosted. John has also donated his site and services to District 5150 Events.
Service Above Self: Our Club supports a local senior facility, Mackey Terrace, and every year, John has been instrumental in pulling together a Holiday Party in December and an outdoor BBQ in the summer to the delight of the residents!
John has traveled with Interactors to Mexico to assist with rebuilding and infrastructure efforts in underprivileged areas. He recently returned from an H2OpenDoors project in Guatemala.
Goes the Extra Mile: Many members of our Club credit John for our survival during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Although it was not necessarily his expertise, John rose to the occasion and implemented technology whereby we could meet weekly via Zoom and continue to have excellent speakers from throughout the world. We had excellent attendance during the pandemic and even had several social Zoom events, including a Thanksgiving Dinner and a Truffle Shuffle. We continue to offer hybrid meetings so that Rotarians who cannot physically attend can do so virtually. Our Club can still host speakers remotely. John continues to be our audio visual guy at every meeting and as an off-shoot of that, sends weekly reports of the meetings and updates on upcoming projects, thus maintaining essential communications with our membership and community.
John is always our go-to guy. He is essential to the daily operation of our Club and its many projects and truly a role model for all Rotarians. We at the Rotary Club of Ignacio are honored to have John as our valued member. John Marshall is most deserving to be recognized as District 5150’s Rotarian of the Month for August 2023!
