Rotary District 5150 is pleased to recognize Richard “Rich” Mozzini of the Rotary Club of Foster City as our Rotarian of the Month for December 2025. A passionate educator and dedicated Rotarian for 23 years, Rich exemplifies Rotary’s commitment to youth, learning, and community service.
Rich is a career educator and retired school administrator with the San Mateo Union High School District. He joined the Rotary Club of Foster City in November 2002 while serving as Vice Principal of San Mateo High School. Throughout his years of service, he has been a steady and active presence in the club—faithfully attending meetings, volunteering at fundraisers, participating in social events, and even traveling to South Africa to help distribute wheelchairs. He also served as the club’s Vocational Service Chair. Yet, his greatest passion has always been working on behalf of students.
For many years, Rich coordinated the club’s longstanding Rotary Dictionary Project, visiting each of Foster City’s three elementary schools to distribute dictionaries to third-grade students. With his natural gift for teaching, he engaged classrooms full of young learners—explaining Rotary’s mission both locally and globally—before presenting each child with a book of their own.
Rich’s deep connection to San Mateo area schools has significantly strengthened the club’s youth programs. He leads the Student of the Month program for San Mateo High School, working closely with faculty to identify outstanding students and inviting them and their families to club meetings for recognition. Hearing about their achievements and dreams is always a highlight for members.
For the past four years, Rich has served as the club’s Scholarship Coordinator, elevating the program into one of the club’s most impactful initiatives. Under his leadership, the program has expanded to provide scholarships to middle school, high school, College of San Mateo, and Adult School students. This year alone, the club will award 30 scholarships totaling $74,200. Rich has broadened the program’s reach to include scholarships for disadvantaged youth, four-year awards, and support for students in CSM’s Disability Resource Program.
Rich is hands-on in every aspect—establishing criteria, drafting applications, collaborating with counselors, organizing volunteer readers, guiding the selection process, and communicating with recipients. His enthusiasm shines brightest when he introduces scholarship winners at club meetings, sharing their stories and celebrating their achievements with heartfelt pride.
A true educator at heart and a devoted Rotarian, Richard Mozzini has made an extraordinary impact on students at every level. Rotary District 5150 is proud to honor him as Rotarian of the Month for his unwavering dedication to service, education, and the next generation of leaders.
