Congratulations to our Rotarian of the Month for December 2019 – Mary Rogren from the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay

Mary joined the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay in 2015 after making a personal career change that allowed her to work locally in Half Moon Bay, California and to become more active in her community.

Mary, a 30+ year resident of Half Moon Bay, California. She has always been active in her community as well as her sons’ schools and sports (despite working a 24/7 job in San Francisco and frequently traveling Internationally.) Joining Rotary in 2015, however, afforded Mary the opportunity to pursue new-found interests that touched on the local community, International, education, and youth.

Mary became quickly engaged with the Half Moon Bay including participating in the Half Moon Bay Club’s fundraisers and serving on the Club’s Board for three years. She is the President-Elect for the 2020-21 year.
Shortly after becoming a member of the Half Moon Bay Club, Mary soon found her niche with the Club’s Rotary Youth Exchange program in both hosting high school exchange students and serving as a counselor. As Mary had personally participated in a summer exchange as a high school student (and her sons also spent time abroad), diving into youth exchange was a no-brainer. Mary not only jumped in at the club level, but two years ago, she assumed the District 5150 Youth Exchange Chair role.

For the 2019-2020 year, Rotary District 5150 has six students from BelgiumBrazilChileFranceItaly and
Japan (hosted by the Burlingame Rotary ClubRotary Club of Half Moon BayRotary Club of Mill Valley) Four gap year students deferred acceptances from UC BerkeleyUC DavisNorthwestern University and University of Oregon to go outbound on exchange – which is a testament to the value of the program.

Mary works full-time at the Coastside County Water District (serving the communities of Half Moon Bay and El Granada, California) and was recently appointed as General Manager in October 2019. Prior to joining the Water District in 2015, Mary worked for 18 years at Cengage Learning, a large international higher education publisher, in numerous roles including Vice-President Global Business Practices and Vice-President Financial Operations. Mary holds a BSC in Accounting from the Santa Clara University and is a Certified Public Accountant (Arizona).

Congratulations to Mary Rogren as our Rotarian of the Month – December 2019 for Rotary District 5150!
