Congratulations to Rotary District 5150 Rotarian of the Month for September 2021, Sandie Pugh from the Rotary Club of Woodside Portola Valley!

Sandie has been a Rotarian since 1999 and has left an indelible mark on both her club and her community. In that time has contributed in many ways including serving as club president 3.5 times, and several years as community service chair and club service chair. She serves on both the club board of directors and the board for the club’s foundation.

In addition to officer positions, Sandie is a natural leader in other club efforts.  She organizes Woodside Portola Valley’s dictionary project to support local schools.  She also heads up the club’s grant and funding for local projects. And for leadership in giving, Sandie is a member of the Paul Harris Society and a Major Donor to TRF.

One of the most profound examples of Sandie’s commitment to Rotary occurred in the past year. She has served as the co-chair for the club’s annual fundraiser, Taste of Woodside.  Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the club to cancel the event. However, Sandie took it upon herself to reach out to the list of past supporters and single-handedly raised over $19,000 in a direct ask campaign. That fundraising effort made it possible for the club to continue their projects in the local community and around the world.

“Simply put, Sandie is a Rotarian at heart and lives it everyday through her actions,” said Dan Ghiorso, 2020-22 President of the Rotary Club of Woodside Portola Valley. “We would not be known as the ‘small but mighty Club’ without her work.”

As another member stated, “I think our Club would fall apart without her."

Once again, congratulations to Sandie Pugh from the Rotary Club of Woodside Portola Valley as our “Rotarian of the Month” for September 2021!
